The Loom Recliner: The Piece That Defines the Room
There Is a Chair We Return to
Every designer has a piece they come back to — not because it is easy, but because it refuses to be ordinary. For us, that piece is the Loom Recliner.
It began as a design problem. Loom-woven furniture in Thailand is usually decorative — beautiful surfaces applied to standard frames. We wanted to know what would happen if the weave was the structure. If the pattern determined the flex, the support, the feel of the chair rather than sitting over it.
The answer required three years of dialogue with a Chiang Rai weaving family and a very specific kind of ergonomic thinking.
What the Chair Is, Exactly
The Loom Recliner is a high-back lounge chair with a recline function built into the weave tension — no mechanical recline mechanism, no moving parts. The chair responds to weight and position through the material itself.
The frame is northern teak, jointed without adhesive. The loom work is done by the third generation of a Chiang Rai family that has been weaving on traditional floor looms for over sixty years. The seat geometry — depth, lumbar offset, armrest angle — was developed through prototype testing over eighteen months.
Three Finishes. One Character.
Natural: The loom weave in its unaltered state — warm, sandy, with a texture that becomes more characterful over time.
Smoked: The teak frame treated with a smoke process that deepens the grain without stain. The weave takes on a cooler, more architectural quality.
Ebonised: Frame and weave both darkened to near-black. The chair becomes a silhouette. Best understood against light walls and natural flooring.
Commissioning Yours
Standard production: 10 weeks from order confirmation. Custom loom pattern for orders of four or more: add two to three weeks for pattern development.
We make one prototype before full production — you approve the sample before any further pieces are made. This is how we ensure the chair you receive is exactly the chair you intended.
Contact us via LINE to begin the conversation. We will ask you about the room first.
